Opus One Moments Our Wines

An Essential Step in Safeguarding Integrity and Longevity

Cork screening

At Opus One, screening corks is an essential step in safeguarding the integrity and longevity of every bottle we produce. The process begins with a visual inspection for any imperfections that could affect performance or appearance. Corks are then soaked for 24 hours in a neutral spirit solution, slightly lower than the alcohol level of our wines. After soaking, our team evaluates the corks for any off aromas or flaws – pictured here is Lab Supervisor Natalie O’Kelley performing this assessment. Any cork that shows signs of deviation is immediately rejected. Every cork format undergoes a rigorous screening, with our large-format sizes – 3L, 6L, and 9L – tested individually to ensure uncompromising quality.
