Opus One has achieved Gold Membership status with International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA) – the highest level of recognition for wineries committed to reducing carbon emissions and advancing sustainability.
This achievement reflects our dedication to powering winemaking operations with renewable energy and consistently reducing emissions per liter of wine. It is a testament to our unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and the future of fine wine.
As our Sustainability Specialist, Haley Nagy, explains:
“This milestone reflects our commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and caring for the land that sustains us. At Opus One, we strive to cultivate vineyards that flourish in harmony with their environment. By minimizing the carbon footprint of our winemaking, we are creating a legacy of resilience and beauty that will endure for generations.”
Since our first carbon calculation, Opus One has transitioned 100 acres of Estate vineyards to regenerative farming practices – incorporating diverse cover crops, grazing, no-till methods, and precision irrigation strategies. These efforts have nurtured biodiversity, improved soil health, and strengthened grapevine resilience.
Our vision for holistic sustainability extends beyond the vineyard, encompassing landscape diversification, riparian restoration, responsible resource and waste management, and the integration of EV charging infrastructure.
